Past and Present
Founded in 1976 by Richard Bennett, Head of Music at Cockermouth School, Castlegate Singers are now led by the Musical Director and composer Philip Wood.

Philip continually adds his own compositions and arrangements to the choir's varied and uplifting repertoire. His talent and originality help to refresh the singing experience for members, enhance their expertise and extend the scope of the choir's contribution to the community.

To celebrate the choir's 25th anniversary, the choir commissioned Philip Wood to write a four-movement work, "Shine Out", which was dedicated to the Castlegate Singers. It has since been published and made available to other choirs across the country.
